FYI TOOLKIT

FYI has developed and collected multiple resources to support youth action and to share peer expertise. Our intent is for these resources to be open source and freely available for use by anyone, anytime, anywhere. These resources are compiled from our youth trainings, provided by FYI partners, or sourced with permission from other organizations. All are available on the following pages, free to download and reproduce. 

Facilitation Tools

Facilitation is an important skill - as a facilitator, you can plan, organize, and lead workshops, meetings, and discussions for a group. 

 

In this compilation of facilitation tools, you will find resources to:  

  • plan a workshop or meeting

  • lead a brainstorm or guide collective decision-making

  • boost energy levels with energizers and icebreakers

  • make sure that your group's process is fair, creative, and represents all voices

Advocacy Tools

Advocacy is the process of a group working collectively to bring about change, and involves working at two levels - increasing community awareness, and influencing policy action. Advocacy involves using your voice to inform others and to call for action. 

 

In this compilation of advocacy tools, you will find resources to:  

  • stage an informative public flash mob through Guerilla Theatre

  • launch informative campaigns using PSAs, PhotoVoice, and Letters to the Editor

  • use creative forms such as comics/graphic narratives and spoken word poetry as a policy tool
